Once Chromebook Recovery Utility has finished, you will be able to boot your Chromebook by following the displayed instructions. To download Chrome OS for your laptop, you need to download the distribution. It does take some rather technical expertise, however. Google releases Chrome OS only for special devices Chromebook and Pixelbook. That means you could get pretty close to a Chrome OS experience by installing Chromium OS on a computer.
If not, you will need to insert your media and hit continue, and it will initiate the creation process to your designated media. Chromium OS is an open-source project that anyone (really) can copy, modify, and use in any way they like.
If you happen to have an image file already, you have the option to use that via the settings icon located at the top right of the interface and select Use Local Image.

Windows 8 & 8.1: A welcome dialogue appears. Start Chrome: Windows 7: A Chrome window opens once everything is done. You can either enter it yourself or choose from the provided list. If you chose Save, double-click the download to start installing. You will need to enter the specific Chromebook model so the extension can provide the correct recovery image. It is presented as a Google Chrome extension allowing immediate access if your device is having issues and needs to be recovered.
